Fem år i to unge, franske pigers liv.

Five years in the lives of two young French girls. Friendships, love, early adult life – a virtuoso documentary ‘Girlhood’ about making the right choices.

Emma and Anaïs are each other’s best friends even though they are quite different, and from widely different families. They are teenagers, and every choice they make determines their future. ‘Adolescentes’ is a warm but unsentimental film, captivatingly observed from when they are 13 to when they turn 18. A crucial period for the two friends, but also for the rest of France: Charlie Hebdo, Bataclan, Macron’s victory. Everything is happening ‘live’ and is thoroughly discussed both during the school breaks and at the dinner table, where the parents are opposing the youths because it strengthens their character. In short, this is French filmmaking at its best. Sébastien Lifshitz is also represented with the film ‘Little Girl’ in this year’s programme.
